I got a canon printer from a friend, installed it om my computer with new ink cartridges. it installed great, but when i want to print a picture all it does is act like it is printing. the page is blank. tried different cartrideges, reinstalled printer drivers, cleaned all parts, made sure ports were correct. any ideas?

not knowing which canon you have, i'll offer this suggestion:

remove all cartridges. get some cotton swabs (q-tips) and some rubbing alcohol. there should be some cone-like things in the printer that are where your carts just were (the printheads). gently clean each one of those with the rubbing alcohol until your q-tips start to come out clean (you'll need more than one per head). replace carts. try printing again.

if this doesn't help, or if you've got the canon that uses printhead carts (the type with the coppery bits), you may need to look into some other ideas (post another question at that point, maybe).

if you've got the carts with the coppery bits, try this:

remove carts. set them (ink ports down) in a dish of hot tap water for about one minute. gently dry them with a paper towel. replace carts in printer. try to print again.

hopefully one of these methods help....

many of the canon inkjets require a special hi resolution cartridge for the photo mode.
