i paid a lawyer to write me a brief and file it with immigration i requested him to give me a copy of the brief but he failed to do that i kept calling his office untill i gave up
then later on this year i requested him to give me a copy of the receipt which is a letter immigration writes to you confirming it got the brief but he failed to do this as well
i cant get to see him i always talk with his receptionist he does
not take my calls no return them
i have a filling he took my money($700)but dint file my case
and now am trying to renew my workpermit but i cant do that without the receipt
what do i do ?
the Lawyer is a nigerian and ive been told they are not honest
and if he dint send in my brief i could get deported what doi
do???

If he is in the US, you can file a claim against him. The simplest would be a small claims matter, demanding your money back. If the lawyer shows up to oppose the claim, you can ask the judge to order him to give you copies of the documents.

Call the Attorney Bar Association wherever it is that he lives and fie a complaint.You should and are entitled to a copy of thr work that he did for you. Make sure you have receipts of what it is you paid him and what it was for.

Go to his office and tell him you want the brief and/or your $700.00

If it comes to that, go to Legal Aid and ask them to them to help you.

true...go to a legal aide. you should have not given him the money up front, i hope you learn a lesson. go to a legal aide. good luck.
