Just take the broken key out.
Sometimes a small pair of needle-nose pliers can be inserted in the broken-off part of the key and you just pull it out. Sometimes one of those lady's hair clips can do it.
I have one right here beside me that almost always works -
1 3/4 inches long, spring hinged with the tip smaller and less than half as thin as a paper clip.
It never fails to get the broken key out.
I learned that from a locksmith who used them all the time.

If you just want the broken key out of the lock, use a dental pick and gently rock it back an forth as you pull it out.

If you plan on replacing the barrel lock, you can just use a dent puller and pop it out.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Turn the ignition switch to "run" (as if you were driving)

Push the release pin at the base of the lock assembly and pull it out while holding the pin in.
