It's that old theory of a few bad apples screws up the whole bushel, or whatever. I try to treat everyone as a seperate individual, but the real issue is why are some more forgiving then others? The black community has some issues where I live, there neigborhoods are run down, there homicide rate is extremely high. I find if people have had a bad experience with a black person they tend to start to distrust the rest of them, that s just the way it is. You should just be like me and dislike everybody.

I thought I would answer anyway. I'm not racist, but I have people in my family who are and I don't like it; I used to know this older guy, he was white and in his mid-eighties and once he said, "I'm not racist, but if my daughter married a black man I would show him the door." I was like, "But doesn't that make you racist if you didn't want your daughter to marry someone who was black?" (what if the man was biracial or something?)

I think some people are like that because of how they were brought up, sometimes parents teach that to their children without realizing it. We just have to learn how to un-teach these things to our kids, and even the adults. These bad lessons that are taught go from generation to generation until someone in the family learns that it's wrong.

Sometimes I look at my skin, and I think to myself: "Is skin really that important? Are some people so shallow that they can't conceive beyond the surface of a person's skin color, no matter if they're black or white or purple or green or whatever?" Skin color is just a pigment and does not define who the person is inside.

I think you should be asking white people to respond to that. That would certainly make more sense but I'm not sure that it would make anyone act less racist. Basically, I think you'd just be beating a dead horse, based on all the nasty racist comments I've seen on Yahoo.

only the racists really know why. I wont venture to speculate here.

She has an interesting theory. Its pretty radical, but there is some good stuff in the book.
