It's a little bit late to start doing any major changes on your workout now. At this point walking may help bring labor on, but what it sounds like you're refferring to is actually making the labor shorter and easier. While nothing's a guarantee on that, many doctors say that women who walk for 30 minutes a day while pregnant (beginning with the first trimester, so they have plenty of time to get in shape) will find labor shorter and easier, simply because their bodies are in better shape. Like I said, though, you've only got maybe two weeks until the big day so that's not much time to prep your body with that walking method. Don't worry, though, you'll be fine either way. Some women are put on bedrest for their whole pregnancy and get NO exercise, and they deliver their babies just fine!

I think that it's not true. I walked everyday for at least a mile or more with both of my kids from 36 to 41 weeks and I still was in labor 22 hours for the first and 21 hours for the second. But every women is different

I walked a mile every day from 39 weeks to the hour my labor began 40w4d. I started having unbearable contractions, got to the hosptal at 6pm and my baby was born at 10:41pm. I think walking had alot to do with it, and I also did alot of sqats and sat on a ball alot of the time and rolled my hips in circles to help the baby drop more. Good Luck!

If I understand your question correctly, then you are in the same situation as I am. My wife is due soon as well and we've had many inputs from many different people as well as doctors. I've been told (they all pretty much said the same thing): Walking seems to bring on labor quicker. Especially walks on the beach (due to the walking pressure on sand), sitting & rolling on the exercise ball, and the most famous one, sex. Semen contains some prostaglandin and having an orgasm may stimulate a few contractions. I also heard nipple stimulation may help. Good luck!!

If you are already dilating, walking will help increase and speed up labor but it won't start it. I have had 4 overdue babies- 2, 9, 9, and 1 day(s) overdue. Nothing helped. Just try to be patient.

It helps the baby get into position (head down) to come through the birth canal. It will help you get to labor - not through it faster...once you're in labor, I doubt you'll feel like walking!! Don't get panicky! It will be over before you know it - then start the dirty diapers!! Good luck sweetie and bless!

An easier labor means you have to be physically fit... and that should have started in your first trimester, not now. Walking might help bring labor along, but if you're not in shape it won't be any easier at this point.

It helps. So does standing still and rocking your hips back and forth, or using a "birth ball" or lots of other things. Didn't you take any childbirth prep classes?

Don't walk for a certain amount of time - just walk as much as you comfortably can. And take a cell phone, just in case.

walking and any other excersize helps labor but you wouldve needed to be doin it all along for maximum help. if you excersize for about 30 minutes a day itll still help speed up the labor.

that's what I've heard too, but it didn't work for me...I was even walking when I went into labor. i think it's your physiology that has alot to do with it...no question being healthier helps you....have a better birth...but I know that physiology has a big part in it too..
