I am thirteen years old and I would like to start babysitting. I am aware that I may seem young, but I have experience with my aunts six children ages 7 months to 10 years. This is something I wish to pursue.

I have been on BabySitters.com and I am going to make a profile. I have tried putting up flyers about three times over the past two years and no one seems interested. Why is this? Any ideas?

last year, when i was the same age as you, i wanted to start babysitting. some people who you can ask are your family or your neighboors with young children. maybe people think youre too young. although you may know you can handle the job, unfortunately, a lot of people who dont know you might judge you by your age. instead of advertising for babysitting, maybe you should make flyers about being a "mother's helper". this means that you will help the mother, while she is home, with her children, whether this means reading them a story, changing dirty diapers, putting them to bed, etc. once you get to know the family and show your responsibility, the family will most likely gain your trust and leave you home alone with their kids. then they will tell other friends about you and they will hire you. remember: sometimes youve got to start small. best of luck!

well, I know it sounds weird, but there is a babysitting course you can do, and you get a certificate and all. I think this will make parents feel more secure. I think it is run by girl scouts, but you do not have to be a girl scout to take it. On the flyer did you mention your experience? also, make sure the cost is not to much when you are just starting out. If you make ads, say you keep kids busy with activities and games. that might help also.

heres ideas for the cost:

Ask around the neighborhood and family friends to see if anyone is interested. Where did you put up flyers?

Any kids in your neighborhood...if u ever see their parents tell them if they ever need a babysitter they can call you and you'd be more than happy to babysit.
Ask your parents n grandparents if they know anyone who might be interested.
I remember when i started babysitting it started with one family n now it seems like i babysit the whole neighborhood!

Word of mouth is the best way. Have your aunts spread the word to all of their friends with kids.
