For a week, I'm been feeling pain in the joint in the smallest toe on my right foot. Not right behind the nail, only where the joint is. I figured I banged it on a table or something, but the pain is getting worse. What can I do?

No blisters or noticeable marks on the area, either.

If you banged it, it could be fractured. The best thing to do whether fracture or sprain, is to buddy tape the toes. This means to get a medical tape(the satin type, half inch) and tape the last toe with the toe next to it. Not too tight, just enough to immobilize the last toe. When you move your toes, the last two should move together and the color of your toes should not change to purple or bluish, this would mean it's too tight. Do that for a week. In the evenings, soak your feet in warm salty water or water with baking soda.

You may have fractured the toe. You should see a podiatrist to rule out a fracture. If the toe is fractured then a surgical shoe and taping of the toe will be needed for 6-8 weeks while it heals. If its not broken then it may be due to a hammertoe but hammertoes usually don't hurt all of a sudden. The usually develop over a long period and begin to hurt in shoes.

I am a diabetic and when I would get sores on my feet or toes I would use what is called "Mole Skin". It helps protect the spot on your foot that is sore. You can get it at any pharmacy. Also, have you bought new shoes recently? Sometimes my small toes will be sore for a week or so until I break them in.

It could be a fracture. It could be a tailors bunion starting to develop. I've experienced both.
