I don't know if these are actually solos. they both sound like there are 2 guitars at play:

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic, from Maggot Brain, Eddie Hazel, guitarist.
Intro/Rock 'N' Roll by Lou Reed, from Rock 'N' Roll Animal, Ian Hunter, guitarist.
Layla by Derek And The Dominos, from Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs(?), Eric Clapton, guitarist

Also like Phil Manzanera's work (solo and with Roxy Music), Al DiMeola (fastests fingers or what?), Joe Satriani, Joe Walsh, Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower and Prince (wherever he'd let loose with one). Oh, really like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Ry Cooder. (There're so many fine moments ....)

Oooh... good ones. I also like Jimmy Page's D'yer Mak'r solo, and Peter Tosh's on Bob Marley's live version of No Woman, No Cry. Good melodic stuff. I also like Slash's lead stuff all through GNR's song Coma, lots of ups and downs, sweet and dirty spots.... yeah!
