FlashGet is new to the BT protocols and has reported issues with both DL speed and stability. They'll probably it fix shortly.
I personally recommend stand-alone apps over all-in-one solutions since stability issues usually rear their ugly heads when one app tries to do the work of many. Stick with FlashGet for your download manager but try UTorrent for BT. It's free, stable as a rock and easy to use. Bittornado and BitTorrent are two other free apps (All BT apps are free!!) that are good as well.
Shareaza is the only multi-protocol app that I actually like. It runs the Gnutella, Gnutella2, EDonkey and BitTorrent networks. It's a bit of a resource hog but nice if you want the ohter networks.
If you want speed, try News Groups. You get the max speed your ISP delivers and it's usually free to use though ComCast limits it's users to 2 Gigs a month in DLs. A premium account through a News Group provider is about $10 U.S. and up. Check binaries4all for more info.
Two last extras: When using P2P apps, have PeerGuardian2 on hand. Donload, install, update and run it along side your P2P apps to help keep such bungholes as the RIAA out of your hair. Next, check out dessent.net for a great BT FAQ. there is a ton of info on BT that'll have you up and running in no time.
Good luck and I hope I helped!
