I talked to a nurse about my birth control pills because I missed about 3 days of them. She told me to take 2 for 2 days then start taking them as regular. Well, I did that and I started my period on the last week of the active pills. Now I have a week left for the inactive pills. Do I still have to wait a week before being sexually active again while taking the inactive pils? Is there a possibility that I might be pregnant?
Thankyou for all of your help I really appreciate it. God bless you.

What type of birth control are you using?

I would use another form of protection for a week.

This is what I found on a quick google search:

If you miss 3 or more "active (white) pills in a row (during the first 3 weeks):

1. If you are a Day 1 starter, throw out the rest of the pill pack and start a new pack that same day.
2. If you are a Sunday starter, keep taking 1 pill every day until Sunday. On Sunday, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack of pills that same day.
3. You may not have a period this month but this is expected. However, if you miss your period 2 months in a row, call your doctor or healthcare provider because you might be pregnant.
4. You may become pregnant if you have sex in the 7 days after you miss pills. You must use a back-up method of birth control such as condoms, spermicides or a contraceptive sponge for those 7 days.

I have been on birth control pill since I was 19 and have been using them off and on between our children. The nurse misinformed you. When you miss one pill you are suppose to take 2 pills the next day. However, if you miss 2 days then you are suppose to wait till you have your period, then wait till the Sunday that follows and begin a new pack.

While that is going on you should definitely use other protection to keep you from getting pregnant. If you think that there might be a possibility that you are, you should definitely get checked out before you take anymore birth control pills because they can cause birth defects in a baby.

Good luck to you.

When you miss 1 birth control pill, the amount of ormones combined in the pill that are preventing pregnancy decrease dramatically & this puts you at risk of pregnancy. The nurse told you wrong - following her advice is overloading your system which will affect your cycle & might cause you to experience some unusual symptoms. So my advice to you is this:
Have your partner use a condom for the next 2 weeks. This will give the protective hormones time enough to rise to a sufficent enough level so you're protected against pregnancy again. Meanwhile take your birth control as normal but you'll probably experience a earlier period this month.

Since you have missed so many days you should probably wait that additional week before engaging in sexual activity. You did the right thing by contacting the nurse to get your pills caught back up, but to be 100% sure, I would wait, or use a condom.

If you miss pills, no matter what you should always use a backup form of birth control for up to a month. Missing doses could increase your risk of getting pregnant.
