Is it ok to have the element 'Gold' in a 55 gallon tank full of goldfish guppies and plicostimus? i have a 14k gold chain i was wondering if i can throw in there on my pile of black tumbled rocks, i just have an underwater gravel filter and a back filter to match the tank.

Since 14k gold is 60% (58.3%) gold and 40% alloy, Alloys used especially in the US are usually copper and silver. More for silver mixing in the states since it is less expensive. Rarely are irons or leads used especially in jewlery making.
Gold does not change in color, rust or corrode or fade. It also does not leach added metals due to the blending process. Gold survives time.
There are many aquariums, especially around the beach area that have gold and gold pieces in their tanks with no harm to the fish. (Most of these pieces are 9K 37.5% real gold.)

No, gold can be toxic and can kill if administered internally, even to human beings in a large enough dose. I'm not sure why you would want to put a gold chain in your aquarium, but this is not a good idea. The minerals in the water will eat at the gold and cause it to leech into the water and into the fishes' bodies and could kill them.

While the gold itself probably wouldn't be a major problem as it is so non reactive, I would be very concerned about the base metals mixed with it. Often lead, nickel and other harmful metals are present.

Do NOT put this in your tank. It will in time kill all of your fish. You might think it looks cool but the metal will totally screw up your tank...
