I have a 60 GB hard drive and a 80 GB iPod and was hopeing to fill it with all my favorites and be able to only update things that need to be updated.

I have been told no. Once you erase your files from iTunes, the next time you plug in your iPod it will erase and replace your old stuff with the new. I wanted to switch from my home computer to my laptop, and was told I could not even do that. Hope someone can give you a different answer.
