The family are the ones who contact the show to get the addict in their life on the show. It is suppose to get the addict to realize they need help. I believe the show pays for the intervention and for the detox and rehab of the addict. Trust me I have just recently written the show to get a member of my family on. The reason is he is almost near death from using drugs. He has no Insurance or money to get the proper long term help. Some parts of the show might be re-enactments. My story is so bad I was hoping to hear from them but they must get thousands of letters of despair from people like me who are desperate to save a loved ones life when there is no other means of help. I hope they are not fake because I am praying I get a call from them before its too late.

I agree, there are so many people out there who want their 15 minutes of fame (or infamy); for example, the folks who end up on Jerry Springer. And I also wonder whether these addicts are getting paid to appear on the show. If so, it's a HUGE incentive .... more money for their habit.
Having said that, it still blows my mind that none of them have seen the show before and can't see the actual intervention coming. I wonder the same thing about the stupid guys on Dateline's To Catch a Predator, who have seen the show, but end up getting caught for trying to ... um ... live out their fantasies at the expense of young teens.
Sick, sick, sick!!!

hi,
it is for real, no actors... the families are the ones who agree about the "whole" thing, being on TV...but the one that needs the intervention only agrees to be part of a documentary and in the end finds out that it is was a tricked intervention. if it was one of my loved ones, i would pull out all the stops to get them help...even if it meant sharing it with the world.

They are completely true. These people are so messed up, that they don't know what they are really doing. It's sad. They do edit it wierdly, but the content is exactly what they film, just edited
