It is people who drive antagonism of any variety. Isn't it like being cross with a God that you profess not to exist? Divide & rule is hardly a sole preserve of the faithful.

What do you mean (those that say it) "religion has caused..."? 'Religion '(used in this context) commonly describes a group of people united by a common belief system. It may be used to 'justify' aggression or cited as a divisive factor, but it is the power-holders (people) who front the conflict. I don't know what that person means by saying I won't explore the answer. Also, answering "because it is" - is not very enlightening. It's amusing that some who can't be bothered to engage with my question are immediately mildly abusive. No conflict without religion, are you sure?

Because that is their belief system it is actually a religion but they don't like that term so they call themselves liberal

Probably because everyone has their own beliefs therefore most people do not agree with each other based on faith and society which ultimately ends up in conflict. I personally believe that everyone has a right to their own faith which ever it may be and each person should respect others beliefs even if they do not agree. If more people thought like that...then maybe that would solve the world's ills.

Based on the FACT that religion has caused more hate, violence, and murder in the history of mankind, than any other cause.

Lois- Like all brainwashed religious nut-jobs, you are attacking me for stating a fact. It answers your question
factually, succinctly and without prejudice to any religion.
It is a FACT.
Now that your behavior has added more credence to my assessment, I'll give you one more reason:

Oh, BTW, it's another FACT.
There is an inverse relationship between intelligence and religious beliefs.
Though the cause/effect is unknown, religious people are of lower intellect than non-religious, and the difference is substantial.
With the current state of education in this country, why would you want to brainwash young, impressionable minds with fiction, fairy-tales, and legends?

Also, eliminating religion will aid in the investigation, arrest, and convictions of the thousands of child molesters who have been transferred and hidden by the church.

Seems like reason enough alone.

Because most wars and issues throughout history were based on religion and still a cause for issues in a lot of war torn areas such as the middle east, northern Ireland, Israel etc...

Most major religions have "love thy neighbour" or a similar text about respecting other people but Many Many wars including modern wars are about a difference in faith. the crusades were in the name of god and went on for hundreds of years slaughtering people. all in the name of a God who loves his children and wants them to love thy neighbour.

For the most part, most wars are based on religion for some reason, and the contradiction is that religion preaches peace, yet causes war, and for example, the Christian Bible mentions several wars, and back then "God" stopped the wars, or just killed everyone who didn't agree with him, but over the past 2 millennia, he hasn't done much.

Look how much harm has been done in the name of religion. Now just now, but all through out history.
I don't think that religion should be gotten rid of, but it *has* caused a lot of problems.

The only way to get rid of the things that are wrong with this world is to get rid of all the people. As long as two are alive then one will take advantage of the other.
