I am thinking of becoming a wedding planner. Is there any wedding planners out there with advice or tips on starting in the wedding planning business? Even if you aren't a wedding planner, if you have or will have a wedding what do you expect from a wedding planner?

To the first 2 people that responded, I realize that it is a very attention seeking job and I don't mind. I love to watch the bride's faces light up when they are having a wonderful time at a gorgeous wedding and I do believe I have that "eye" for detail and I think and hope I will do very well as a wedding planner. But thank you for the comments.

You must have a passion for organizing, planning, and paying CLOSE attention to details. There are tons of planners online that have websites so research as many as you can to find out what services they offer and see what brides are interested in. Also check out some sites like The Knot.com...the information on bridal sites has information that a successful planner has to share with his/her brides. Learn as much as you can about the industry--whether it is online, your local library, and shadowing local wedding planners. There are also online courses available to help you understand the logistics of the industry. If you're not interested in online, look into your local college for availability of hospitality/wedding/event planning courses.

If you have friends or family that are getting married, having a party, or planning a shower-offer to help out and use this time implementing the things that you have researched and learned.

Being a wedding planner is not a clean and time wasting job. You are the one that is hired to take the stress of planning off of the bride. You will also have to obtain critical thinking skills, handle stress very well, and able to deal with all types of people. The planner is the one who doesn't mind getting real dirty and sweaty while producing a fabulous event for the couple to get all of the credit.

It is a wonderful job, a tediuos job, and a rewarding job.

Best Wishes!

For any person in the wedding industry to be successful, you have to network with other professional.

If you're a wedding planner in San Jose / San Francisco Bay Area, my best friend is looking for a wedding planner to partner with. She's a photographer for Shoot Me Now Studio in San Jose, CA. They want to promote you via video marketing in and around the Bay Area. This video will show up on first page of Google. No charge to you. They will pay for it in exchange that you refer them your clients.

Just Google "Shoot Me Now Studio" in San Jose. You can contact them anyway you want. Ask for Annabeth.

Regards,
Zoe P.
