It is supposed to be a therapy technique for the control of depression. She said that hanging upside down helps in the release of seratonin which combats depression.
She may not be the most likeable person, but I saw a clip of this show and I am sure that it touched many others in the world suffering with the same issues as she has been.
She said her depression began after the Columbine School shootings and murders. Rosie said that she was so affected by the tragedy that she could not stop crying, even though they were not her children, or anyone she personally knew.
She went for therapy and discovered that she has major depression and seasonal affective disorder (where sunny days make her feel happy, and cloudy, dismal days make her feel depressed - many suffer from this).
She was on The View explaining all of this and to send out a message that if anyone else out there was having the same difficulties that they need to go get professional help for it because it is truly a matter of life and death. Depression can be a killer, and at the very least, it robs you of your ability to enjoy life. Medication along with therapy is what she believes saved her life.
