Centrum does not contain enough iron to be harmful to men. I've taken it for years. The harm comes when you take the much more powerful supplements that are just iron or iron plus a couple of other nutrients. Centrum is beneficial and safe. I recommend it highly.

If a male donates blood or has some type of blood disorder(low hemoglobin) it's fine to take iron; however, since a male does not have a period, he can accumulate too much iron; this is called hemochromotosis (an excess of iron in the blood). The treatment is phlebotomy or donating blood. A lot of men do not know about this problem. They should be extremely careful about their iron intake.

Iron is a substance that 'out of balance' can be bad.
Too little is bad, too much is bad .
In life & esp nutrition , balance is critical.
Men can be short of iron but just taking it without knowing , can cause problems.
Read up on iron deficiency first . . . then , if you have the symptoms , take it.
Too much , will among other things, make you very constipated.

Generally it's not a problem as long as he doesn't overdo it. It's best not to exceed 45 mg of iron per day.
