You could also look at the problem a little different. Since you are only cutting one half of the loaf into eight peices. Cut the other half into 8 peices as well. Now you have 16 total peices and one peice is 1/16 of the loaf. Different approach, hope it helps

1/8 * 1/2 = 1/16
