A slipped disc is frequently actually a bulging disc. As the disc bulges, it pushes on the nerve roots that come off your spinal cord. This compression sends numbness, tingling, and pain radiating out from your back.

Also, if it was caused by some sort of trauma, your back muscles spasm as a means of protection. This is also painful.

When you have a slipped disc you usually end up pinching a nerve in your spinal cord OUCH
