Intel might be slightly faster at the moment, but AMD has done great work for Computer users by providing an alternative to the Intel monopoly. AMD is saving us a ton of money, if only there was an equivalent for Microsoft monopoly. Right now, AMD is in a little bit of financial trouble due to their very low prices, and we need to support them in every way we can. I encourage you all to consider AMD to keep the computing world free. If they fold, Intel will be the only supplier and then we will be in big trouble.

They are both excellent manufacturers of processors.
Bang for Buck is better with AMD.
Example:
AMD 4600+ is neck in neck with the Intel E6400 when all benchmarks are considered....& equal so far as price performance.
See the results here:

Yes, Intel makes the fastest processor on the market for consumer PCs, however, that is not a reason to buy strictly Intel (unless you are shopping for that particular fastest CPU).
The same logic would say that since Chevrolet makes the fastest US automobile (Corvette) the only Amereican car you should buy is a Chevrolet....that would be total nonsense.
You will get lots of extreme opinions with a question like this because whereas IT people are normally trained to think logically many have strong opinions about AMD & Intel that are more personal than professional.
Fortune 500 companies use both brands in both their workstations & servers .... it's a matter of finding the right package at the right price.

Not much difference other than price. They'll both outlive your computer anyway.
