Well--depends on your level of cruelty-tolerance. You can use kill traps. You can use live-release traps. You can poison.
You can get a pet cat for the sake of having a wonderful companion-but there's never a guarantee that they will hunt in the house. _(I know where-of i speak--mine figure they're off the clock when they come indoors.) Or you can mouse-proof as best you can and live with it. That's what i do. I have one cupboard they always breach-so only canned goods go there now. My conscience will not allow poison--its cruel, gross and dangerous to other life forms. Kill traps only work sometimes and you have to be prepared to "off" the mouse if it only maims... Live release traps work until the mice get wise.... and releasing them outside especially in winter is damning them to starvation. So--bottom line is--try to mouse-proof your house. Fill any gaps with mortar or steel wool or wads of duct tape. Mice have wee little heads--even tiny openings are fair game. And seal food like cereal, pet food and dry goods inside plastic, metal or glass. Bribe the cats. And realize that it could be worse. At least they're not squirrells.

Mice like it in the walls, its warm and dry. The best way is to cut off the food supply, You'll have rodent proof all you food, put anything in soft packets in a container with lids, also have a right good clean all over your property, any crumbs, splodges, clean under everywhere. Because you have mice it doesn't mean you are dirty, if you live in a property adjoinging another they might be feeding in next doors house. You could have a polite word with them.
They can get through holes as wide as a pencil, so have a look round and see if you can block them up with something. If you are using bate traps, Chocolate works better than cheese.
I had them a few years ago and borrowed a friends cat for a while, soon after that they went, but that doesn't promise they wont come back. If you catch a live one, take it as far away from your property as possible as they will find their way back.
A pest control officer at your local authority might be able to advise you and in most cases its free advice.
Good luck

You can put fabric softener sheets around your house (obviously where the rabbits won't get them and eat them). Many people have said that this really works. I bought Bounty (that was the brand that was recommended) and put a couple of the sheets in my cupboards where I had evidence of mice and I haven't been bothered since. Also make sure that pets such as dogs or cats cannot get them. They could cause health problems or worse if your pets should eat them.

Mice tend to use the same trails to move about the house. Try to identify those trails and bait along them. You'll be surprised that a mouse will bypass bait set mere inches from its trail.
Mice tend to become trap shy so a commercial bait will do.

I have read that leaving snake poo around the house is a sure bet and will keep the mice away. Finding it may prove a bit difficult though. A reptile park or pet shop may be able to help.

Mothballs are supposed to be good. Some people with caravans put then in during lie-up to deter mice from staying. They don`t like the smell. The only problem is they`ll stink you out as well.

I've got 2 cats and neither would know what to do if they saw a mouse. The only way I can see is humane traps.
