I'd sprawl out. That way when someone cames over to sit.... either I can put my head on their lap so they can play with my hair... or I put my legs on their lap and I get a massage. I win.

It depends where it is - usually I would lean against one of the arms. If it was my own sofa in the house or a sofa at my mum's, I might well lie across it.
