I'm taking this to be a qualitative analysis question.

Silver forms a soluble complex with aqueous ammonia. The presence of silver is confirmed by dissolving solid material in 6 molar NH3 (aq) and then reprecipitating as the chloride by freeing the silver ion from the complex ion using 6 molar hydrochloric acid.
