Ok, so I'm under the hospital at the moment and they're trying to find out what's wrong. I asked to be referred by my doctor because I have all the symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome. I haven't had a period since september, and the one I finished then lasted 6 months continuously. For the 3 or 4 years before that my periods were all over the place. I am overweight and have had a real hard time trying to lose weight-I eat less than my friends and yet I just keep on gaining weight. I alos have hair under my chin, down the sides of my face and on my stomach, skin tags on my neck, discoloured skin on my neck and on my thighs, anxiety, underactive thyroid.....basically every symptom going! However, when I had an ultrasound done they couldn't see an cysts on my ovaries. It wasn't a transvaginal scan though and they said this should have been done, but does anyone else know of anything this could be?

No I cant think of any, you really do sound like another woman I read about ina amgazine who has PCOS for years and couldnt work out why she kept gaining weight, but was not eating nearly as much as her friends. I think they just didnt do ur scan properly and will pick it up next time, I think u have been correctly diagnosed and all the symptoms sound the same.

Hi the symptons you descibe sound like pcos but even though it hasn't shown on a scan it doesn't mean that you haven't got it .
You can have the cysts but not the symptoms or you can have the symptom but not the cysts.
I have the cysts but not all of the symptons - Mine symptons were irregular periods and weight gain - but I didn't have any of the others symptons.
The underactive thyroid will cause problems with weight and you need medication for that.
I had the a problem with the weight gain but now I'm on the slimming world plan I keep my weight in check plus I do a bit of exercise too.My thyroid is ok though but I had a friend who has the underactive thyriod and she couldn't loose weight till she got her medication
I had a normal scan and mine showed up but a friend of mine had to have the transvaginal scan for hers to show up.

Hello sweetheart. I know just what your going through on the weight issue. I am currently seeing a CERTIFIED NUTRITIONAL THERAPIST and am just starting to lose weight. I weighed at least 335-340 lbs in Jan and now I'm down to 318. If you saw my medical history you would fall over. I am an x-breast cancer pt, 16 yrs remission now and a diabetic since 1992. And a thyroid pt in 1997. In 2003 I was put on lantus insulin and I "ballooned" up from 245 to 340 lbs. I am also 5'11 1/2"
I made diet changes and got off the insulin on my own and then I came into some finances and saw the nutritional therapist. I am so glad I did this. Conventional medicine is not the way of the future...My sister will graduate this program in May and our Therapist is really good. 25 to 30 yrs experience.
If you want better health you need to get some books and start reading about what the food companies are doing to our food. I don't eat anything out of a box. I eat fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken and beef occasionally. It all boils down to the AMOUNT OF SUGAR in absolutely everything there is to buy...Sugar is actually poisonious to us.
Something in your body is out of balance and the doctors you are seeing don't study anything about this at all.
Please get the right help. If you need to email me please feel welcome to do that and I'll try to find someone in your area to help you.

Hi, I too have PCOS and I was first diagnosed at the age of 18. I am now 27. I have each and every one of the symptoms that you have and my cysts were not found via an ultrasound. I had a laparoscopy. It is a minor surgery that you have and go home the same day. The doctor knocks you out and puts a pen like device inside your belly button and one down below in the pubic region. THAT is how my cyst were found. I am now on metformin, a med used to treat diabetes. i have lost weight and a getting "normal" periods again.

it sure does sound like u have all the symptoms of pcos..although a transvaginal scan would definately be more definitive..u should ask your doctor for one of these to be done..im wondering did they check u for endometriosis at all for the long periods u experienced???and also have you considered getting a second opinion.i think it would be a v good idea

What could be wrong? It is evident that you have a grave glandular imbalance. You need blood tests and a good endocrinologist to run and check the tests for you. Hirsutism in a female is ALWAYS evidence of unbalanced hormones.
