No, I don't think that will happen in our lifetime. The English people have no idea that the Royal Family is the main reason that they have a high tourist rate. I've visited many times and without the royal family there...wouldn't have bothered. There are a lot of dollars tied up there - if they look at the comparatively small amount of tax dollars going to the Royal Family (a lot of money they get is from the Duchey of Cornwall), compared to tourist dollars, they'd be crazy to abolish them.
I'm a little nervous about how things would go with Charles on the Throne. I think it would be best to have it pass over Charles and go directly to William. He's a modern thinker and will change the face of Royalty thanks to his mother.
There are still a lot of people who won't accept Camilla, especially if Charles makes her queen. Also, Charles should not be king as I don't see how a Divorced man can be "Defender of the Faith" - what a hypocrite he is.
Thank God the Queen is healthy and shows no signs of slowing down (I wish I had her energy). I hope she's around till at least her Mothers age!!! Long live the Queen!!!!

Absolutely No Way!
The real power behind any UK government is the Monarchy.
(haven't you caught on to that one yet)
The Monarchy (believe it or not) has the final say on any major decision that will influence it's standing in the Global Village's pecking order.
The Government of the day does as is 'requested' it does not rule (contrary to belief) Carte blanche, though it may frquently appear to do so.
Times have changed since Cromwell's day when the "voice of the people" had to be heard and Parliament was seen to rule the land - politics and circumstance have gone full circle ensuring that the Monarchy may steer the bus from the back seat while using their politicos to collect the fares/pay the fines/and take the rap for any errors of judgement.
It's akin to a 3 way symbiotic relationship i.e. the Shark the Ramora and us the Krill.
Enjoy it in it's perpetuity - the Monarchy is here for keeps.

No. I think that the UK will stubronly integreate in the EU. History is a good political tool, and the monarchy in recent years has served the purpose of having a unified Brittish identity. There are far to many monarchists, the Royal Family itself has liberalized and became less rigid, it just means less official traditional rights, as they break their own traditions. If the popularity went down to about 10-30% maybe, but that doesn't seem too likely, as the Royal family extends the influence of Britain beyond.. and serves to unite political functions on a number of fronts. If more commonwealth countries tossed the monarchy especially say Canada it'd be more likely, but it doesn't seem to likely even with the rampant republicanism and otherwise. It is being shelved, but there are still people alive when the monarchy had a waning influence on daily life, publically. It's role appears to be changing, but I think there are still many allies of the Brittish monarchy, plus it still has very large influence relative to other individuals as one of the richest families in the world.
I think it is just more behind the scenes now. I think that they still serve a vital public function, even if it sadly is not done to a large enough scale, that can be seen, as to inspire loyalty and apparently wise rule, free of error by administration. The royals even if not my vision, do seem to be a shining example of a capable and applied family group dedicated to the values of 'their' society, and with a long tradition of being willing to bare all to do it.

Not at all. The UK is unique because of the monarchy, and 1000 year old traditions don't die that easily. Who would want King Blair? Or even worse, King Bush!

I do not think the British will abolish the monarchy system until such time as its advantages money wise are far less than its costs. At the moment its a great winner tourist wise and virtually self supporting It just may outlast us all.

get real you have absolutely no idea what the powerstructure in this world consists of
34 presidents of the USA are genetically conected to the royal family
and other presidents of other colonies are as well
in Mexico for 500 years ,the presidents are controlled by the house of Salinas which is related to the Spanish royalty and goes back to Roman times ,
kings and queens conquer colonies ,then withdraw but leave their bloodlines behind
when the queen dies her blood continues to rule the world

No. Not only is it a culturally important tradition, but the monarchy brings in a lot of tourists. There's no point in abolishing it.

Sorry to say no, but we may get a day of when she does, and, or a day off when that idiot is crowned King, but in this day and age when they have no say in what goes on, and don't have a clue about real life, and how the real work is done around the country that's the only useful thing they do and that's give us a day off now and then, if were lucky.

Surely it would need to be by consent of the sovereign and that would be impossible without one! I think our system is great. I would rather somebody who does the job 'nobles oblige' and somebody striving for power to make final decisions together than some 'half whited' supreme leader.
