They say that the world is more dangerous now but really is it? Or is it just more crimes get reported now? I dont things have changed enough for people to be as overprotective as they are.

ohh hell yeah ,,, I think its just because they don't want us to screw up our lives like they did, that's the way my dad is

for example he dropped out of high school and broke almost every bone in his body riding motorcycles

and, that leaves me forced to go to collage and not allowed near a motorcycle

either that or their just stuck up pricks who don't know how to enjoy life

who knows ???

I think it depends on where you are raising your kids. I grew up in the country and had a lot of freedom to explore. I am raising my daughter in a city but it's not a really big city and I am not overprotective at all. She's been taking the city bus all over town on her own since she was 12. She is now almost 16. Sure I worry about her sometimes but I can't lock her in her room. I have taught her independence all through her life so she wouldn't grow up and be naive like I was when I left home....I was VERY sheltered from real-world issues.

If I was raising my daughter in a large city with a large ammount of crime then I would have raised her a bit differently and been more overly protective but I still wouldn't have kept real life knowledge from her. We'd still talk about everything like we do but she wouldn't have so much freedom.

Not at all. I been witness to some of the things that adults and teens do in front of my four children (12, 6, 6, 5) when I'm standing right there! So I don't want to even imagine what might go on if I'm not around. Therefore, unlike when I was a child, they are not allowed to go anywhere without me, their dad, or my mom. I do good letting them walk 2 blocks away to school everyday. And it's not just strangers I'm worried about, I've got so many friends and family that are either crazy or on crack that I have to shield the kids from a lot more than I grew up with.

No, parents HAVE to be more protective. There is so very little deterrent now for criminals, it simply isn't safe to let a child loose by themselves. And it is MUCH worse now than in the past. I grew up in the 60s and 70s, and there was plenty of current reporting done at that time. There was not the kind of child molestation and crime against children that there is now. Really.

No, they are protective enough. Young people need to be protected as they are taught how to be a responsible and caring adult. Today an increasing number of adults simply let their children run free with no restrictions and real learning.

No, I don't they are overprotective nor are they strict enough. That's why everywhere you go, you can see kids behaving badly and running amok. If I had behaved like that when I was a kid, I would have got a leather belt right across my @ss.

Well it is more dangerous, read my blog to see that it is, and why I'm paying a drug dealer to leave my friend alone and giving her a knife to defend her self with. But parents must allow kids to be exposed to this so they can make it in the real world.

Do you mean parents? If you do, then my answer is no, I don't think they are too protective. Actually, I think some parents aren't protective enough. The world is smarter than it used to be, and that apparently makes people more stupid, in that they think they are safe, when in reality they are less safe than they ever have been.

some are over and some are under...

this world is kinda whack...its good they are protective but too much will make the child annoyed and in extreme cases maybe even wussy! lol
