My family lived in a trailers until I was in the 10th grade. We were occasionally called trailer trash, but it never fazed me one bit. Neither did it bother my parents and brothers. We moved a lot. My dad built bridges in Missouri and Kansas and for a short time in Colorado.
The trailer was a home we could take with us so our family was never split up. Prior to owning a trailer -I was too young to remember- my father went ahead to the next place and would find a house for us to rent. Most times they needed major cleaning and repairs. By the time it was livable, we would be gone again. Our trailer was always clean and us kids were made to mind and we lived in places where the other 'trailer trash' lived. We, as a group, were often a better neighborhood than the natives of the town. I have always kind of liked being called trailer trash. I have always been proud of my family and the way we conducted ourselves.
Call me crazy.
BUT!
Do you like being disliked for something so unnecessary? She is right to take it as an insult particularly since she does not live in a trailer. You need to apologize right away. No one needs more enemies.

because that is an insult, and just because you live in an apartment doesn't mean that you're "trailer trash". I know I would be offended if someone said that to me.

In today's world that is really considered a racial slur. I would be careful if I were you. You know how folks love to retaliate. Stay safe.
