As you cant use dimmer switches on them ,cant find light fittings to take them without looking hideous, won't get one to fit your oven or extractor hood . Won't work on movement detector security lighting , dust to dawn controls or electronic timers. Not to mention the crappy light that they give off that affects the eyesight.
Where are we going to get the landfill sights that will take all the useless dimmerswitches, ovens ,extractors timers etc etc etc. Is it me or are they all barking mad. I am off to buy myself a lifelong supply of real light bulbs from B and Q before they are taken off of the shelves

The worlds gone mad. I tried those energy saving bulbs but they wont fit in my light fitting, the poke out the top of the wall lights and look bloody stupid. If someone came up with an energy saving bulb in the same format as a regular 40W bulb then i may consider it. I work for an electrical contractor so will have to 'stock pile' bulbs - what are they going to do, force their way into our homes to see what bulbs we have.

At this 2d they say its a win win difficulty for them and us. We use much less electric powered and that they might possibly placed back development or including directly to capacity vegetation saving much extra money. yet there's a dark element to all of this that places a brilliant subject to the destiny, those bulbs incorporate Mercury a danger that's think to be deposed in a particular waste disposal. additionally if those bulbs harm interior the domicile they seem to be a danger and think to require particular freshen up. i think of we'd desire to look ahead to a air purifier bulb

PIRs will sucessfully control 'long tube' fluorescents (alone) , and also compact fluorescents IF a conventional bulb is also included in circuit.

As for the light 'quality' issues; a good-quality fluorescent has a very 'white' light compared to tungsten / halogens. It actually looks fresher comparing them side-by-side

Some peoples eyes were affected by the 'flicker' of older fluorescents. A flickering one is due for replacement that's all. It isn't an issue with newer/better ones.

Strictly speaking, it's the lot in Brussels who are behind this, although this government is so stupid it would probably have done this anyway.
It's not as if you can get 'energy-efficient' bulbs that are in any way compatible with existing bulbs, as you say.
Also, 'energy-efficient' bulbs contain mercury, apparently, which they've tried to eliminate elsewhere.
Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it ?

Already use them. They have cut my Electric bills right down.
And the light they give does not harm the eyes. Quite the contrary, they give of a light similar to natural light.
Tungsten light is too yellow. It causes depresion in some peeeps. So shut up!
