As a whole, the Japanese are one of the most carnivorous nations in the world. They will eat anything that crawls across their plate. Now, that being said, there are vegetarians here. Health food stores have been springing up all over the country. They are not as popular as your local convenience store yet, mainly because of the prices, which are considerably higher than normal food stores, but to the more health conscious, the price is worth it. Average supermarkets have a very nice selection of beautiful fruits and vegetables, but due to a premium on land, their prices are also higher than the prices of the USA.

There are "Green" restaurants that are totally vegetarian. There are also restaurants that base their menu totally on the soybean, namely, tofu. It is amazing the things they can create from tofu.

If you still like the consistency of mean, there is a company, that I buy from regularly, that makes "vege-meat" out of soy beans, called "Saniku Foods". It is run and staffed by the SDA church. A protestant Christian denomination that has the largest protestant health and medical network in the world.

So, as far as food for vegans, you DO have a future here in Japan, should you choose to make the move here.

Hope that helps.

i imagine the note vegetarian is faulty the following in Japan, because they look to have their own definition which only includes no longer eating lumps of meat very usually. it truly is confusing to blame them on condition that no longer so some time previous it became regularly happening for low-grade celebs in Western cultures to call themselves vegetarians yet nonetheless eat fowl or fish. absolutely everyone who did not swallow all that nonsense is conscious completely properly that a vegetarian does no longer eat any meat or fish product, and that many also do not eat eggs or milk products. As for eating in Japan, maximum prepared food has both fish inventory, fowl inventory, or red meat inventory in it. The exceptions being tofu and clean vegetables and culmination. As you'd be residing in a classic living house (quite than a inn) you'll don't have any issues cooking your human being food, regardless of the truth that in case your spouse is youthful you've were given to do truly some the cooking your self. eating places may be complicated, yet i have self belief there's a vegetarian company over the following which with somewhat of luck someone will save in ideas the call of and inform you, plus your spouse will manage to ask suitable questions on your behalf in eating places and shops to make certain you in reality get suitable ingredients. (Assuming she particularly is conscious what you do and do not favor to eat.)

if you could and would eat fish, you would eat very happily. so easy to live here without eating beef, pork, etc. but why do without the incredible fish?
you could live on ramen, udon and soba noodles, though and vegetarian sushi and tempura. you won't go hungry and will have good, delicious choices
