CONGRATULATIONS! Your wife has absolutely nothing to worry about even if she still has THC in her system. Props to her for quitting when she heard the big news... she's already being a good mom! I smoked weed days before I found out that I was 1 month pregnant... my 1 1/2 yr-old seems just fine to me. :)

I wish I could find my "What To Expect When You're Expecting" book, (awesome... highly recommended!!!)... I know it tells you not to worry about it if you smoked or drank before you found out you were pregnant. It may be nature's way because as your pregnancy progresses it's more and more important that you live a healthy lifestyle.

IN RESPONSE TO Jack of...'s answer - the first article is about difficulty in BECOMING pregnant... not your problem. The other 3 are about CONTINUED use of marijuana... no problem there either. Don't worry... your baby and your baby's mama are just fine.

In fact... I came across something just now that talked about how some midwives encourage marijuana use to deal with severe morning sickness and the actual birthing process. I'm not condoning that myself but hey - if some midwives recommend it then it can't be horrible...

I dont think, that if she smoked it before she found out that she was pregnant, that it will hurt the baby. Just make sure she doesnt smoke it while she is pregnant, my sister smoked it through the whole pregnancy of my middle nephew and now he has an incredible amount of trouble talking and that is because she smoked it during, according to the doctors. Yeah shes an idiot!!! aha

She needs to discuss this with her doctor some research has found that prenatal cannabis use is associated with slightly reduced average birth weight and length. Hopefully YOU no longer smoke either as YOUR use of "weed" can have an effect on the unborn as well.

I _really_ doubt that's going to be a problem.

"When adverse outcomes are found, they are inconsistent from one study to another, always relatively minor, and appear to have no impact on infant health or mortality.13 For example, in one recent study, researchers reported a statistically significant effect of marijuana on birth length. The marijuana-exposed babies, on average, were less than two-tenths of one inch shorter than babies not exposed to marijuana.14 Another study found a negative effect of marijuana on birth weight, but only for White women in the sample.15 In a third study, marijuana exposure had no effect on birth weight, but a small negative effect on gestational age.16 Overall, this research indicates no adverse effect of prenatal marijuana exposure on the physical health of newborns."

weed can effect the babies children. the more you smoke, the longer you smoked, and the closer to the pregnancy, the worse it is.

Just as long as she is not smoking it through the pregnancy she should be fine. But you should definitely talk to her doctor about it.
