When I see someone yawn, I often feel a stronge urge to yawn myself. Why does this happen?

It's a psychological "suggestion". Many people respond in the same manner to coughing, scratching (itching) crying and vomiting. Terrible huh?

I really dont know, and niether does anybody else. But once, i was camping and everybody around the campfire yawned within the same minute (there was at least 10 boys there)

I hope you realize you made me yawn answering this question.

On the surface, its a reflex to get more oxygen.

On one of the many other deeper levels, its mirroring behavior where one subconsciously follows another person's behavior. Mirroring behavior is where you are talking to someone who is tapping their foot, and then you start tapping yours. He shifts his body posture, and you shift yours. He yawns, you yawn.
Yawwwwn...excuse me....
