Basically what they do is they start answering the question then submit the unfinished answer so that it comes out on top. Then they click the edit button and finish their response.

It makes sense, but is it ethical? I understand that most users only read like 5 or 6 answers, and if it goes into voting (for those who are point gaming) usually the answer is given to one in the top ten. But still I don't think its right. Maybe yahoo should eliminate that option? Or make so if you edit your question your answer gets sent to the bottom of the list.

What do you guys think?

I think the real problem is that there is a fixed order to the answers. I'm not sure I'm actually against the "homesteading" thing; for this reason - if you put a lot of time and thought into your answer, it usually ends up last in the queue. I just started trying this trick myself recently, because I was getting so frustrated by writing out a carefully considered answer, only to submit it and find out it had been pushed behind 45 others. Face it, most people want to have their input heard, and if you end up on page two, nobody's going to read it. It's particularly vexing if you worked hard on it. What happens is, all the glib one-liners end up at the top, and then people have an opinion fit thumbs-upping or downing them. Whatever.

I think the system needs to be revised somehow, but I haven't been able to come up with a plausible solution so far. Let's hope it improves in the future.

you mean homesteading, it was against the rules at one time. I dont think it is now.
No, I don't think it is ethical as a trick to get near the top of the list. At the same time I sometimes find that I need to look something up or am called away when answering. I might not get back to some answers for hours and they would be lost if not saved. Have you ever tried finding an unmarked question in this stream. Even with the question search it can be a real pain. It is much easier to post your start of an answer, then you can pick it back up from your answer list.
The idea of being at the top of the list for voting is just wrong.

you ought to have 15% of your solutions be picked by way of fact the "desirable answer". in case you notice somebody who's signed on much less that 30 days in the past who's a "good Contributor", it ability that individual in all risk has dissimilar money owed (which of direction is actual against Y!A's TOS, yet nevertheless trolls do it) and is answering him/herself and identifying on him/herself as having the desirable answer.

It's stupid. Imagine what those people are like in real life, if they can't go without "cheating" even in something as unimportant as answering a question online.
