I am for animal testing for good reasons. Cosmetics- not a good reason. Testing a few for the advancement of human or animal population's health- completely for it.
From an animal perspective- how do you think they came up with all those vaccines? animal testing. I am sure thousands of animals died to make the rabies or distemper vaccine to keep your dog safe. Surgery techniques to remove that blockage or hip surgery? Animal testing before trying it on your pet. If the animal is kept in situations as humanely as possible and they are killed sparingly with maximum use to their life, I have no problems with it.
Most of the people who are against it (some actually research and come to the opinion, which I am fine with, but I am betting most dont) think that all of the testing is little bunnies and rats getting smoke puffed in their faces or makeup put on lying in their own filth with no food and water. Not all facilities are like there. there are codes to follow.

Just because it isn't all swathing the eyeballs with chemicals doesn't make it right.
Sure--a lot of good has come out of it. But how would YOU like to be that rat, or dog, or rabbit or chimp that is caged and prodded for life? It is morally wrong to enslave them like they are lesser than us as if we have the right to destroy an individual animal's quality of life in the name of enhancing our own.
Those that are for it should volunteer to be the ones who have the testing done on THEM!
-----
Sorry to the person who joined, but PETA blows. They are radical and break laws. They do not have the best interests of animals at heart so much as their own political agenda.
PETA isn't really helping animals at all. It is a fringe group looking for publicity. If you REALLY want to help adoptyour next pet fromtheloca shelter and then give it a FAIR chance in its new home!

Animal testing for cosmetics serves no higher purpose and should not be done.
On the other hand, when it comes to medical animal testing... it is ugly and terrible, but it is for a higher purpose. If it weren't for animal testing, anyone you know who is an insulin dependant diabetic would be dead. Many medicines were formed through animal testing. No, its not fair. It's not right. It's not just. But it has saved countless of human lives.

Most things in life are not black and white. This one IS.
Animal testing of cosmetics and scents and other stupid stuff people don't even need is completely WRONG! I can't even breathe most perfumes/colognes without having a serious asthma attack because I am so allergic to the orris root that they contain. I can't imagine having it or chemical laden laundry soap swathed across my eyeballs.
One day we will find a much better way to test medicines too. That's a greyer area (I think the cruelty factor is lower, but still less than desirable), although we need to solve our own illnesses without harming animals in the process. After all we don't test things that benefit THEM on US do we?

Oh isn't that horrible?!
I myself am against it and don't see how anyone could be for it. They must really be out of tune with the world and quite heartless not to be against it.
