I have 2 toddlers I would like to let play outside this summer. My 2 year old got stung 7 times last summer. I have heard different solutions. I was just looking for some reassurance. I've read: dryer sheets, moth balls, peeled garlic cloves, lemon juice, paper bag stuffed with newspaper, and even peeing on it! Does any of this work? Except peeing on......

They make special wasp spay you can spay them with.
The difference between normal spray and warp/hornet spay is the spay comes out of the can about 3 metres long.

That means you can be a safe distance to spray them, then I still run as fast as I can. Once you have killed them, remove the nest and spray all over the place outdoor surface spray very couple of months.

If you check out various gardening product catalogues---you will find glass "wasp traps". You fill them with sugar water to attract the wasps, then they climb into them and drown.
Also, this has worked for me: after I spray a nest, I don't knock it down. I let it remain there, and the wasps invariably do NOT come back around to where the sprayed nest is.
Good luck!

Two toddlers, the safest way is once you get rid of the hive get a can of old fashioned furniture polish and spray it heavily on where they make the hives. It's the wax that prevents them from being able to build the hive on the surface. It basically slips off. Keep it sprayed with the furniture polish where they try to build.
And one more hint if your toddlers like to leave prints all over your crome fixtures in the bathrooms...the furniture polish rubbed on the crome will make cleaning a breeze! If you notice a hive near a door the kids use ;put vasilene on the door handle, the kids can't grip the door handle enough to get out the door! I had 8 children worked like a charm!
If the hives are still there get a professial to get rid of them with 2 toddlers you can't afford to mess with pestisides.

Call the nursery and by chance they might tell you what to use to get rid of them else you may have to call a bee keeper in to do the job. They have a wasp killer spray at Home Depot you could try but make sure you and the children get out of the way. My friend told me a clear laquer spray that you use in crafts works!!

I noticed pesticides aren't on your list, but that is the most effective way to get rid of them. I'd get a professional exterminator if the nests are too big or you cant get to them easily.
