How and where did musicians in the 1920's (specifically Harlem and Chicago) live? Did they live in hotels, or did they live in apartments such as the "267 House" in Harlem? Also, what was the daily schedule of a musician?

Thank you!

Ahmm.... try wikipedia.

I did a research paper on jazz artists of the 1920-40's era.... generally speaking the greats are:

Duke Ellington i believe he was from Washington DC and then went to Harlem

Benny Goodman was from Chicago

Count Basie was from St. Louis i think...

Glenn Miller

Nat King Cole

try PBS. they did a television special about some of these artists with the 20th Century Masters something or another.

singers like cab calloway and sammy davis jr. were banned from many white hotels...many of them practiced so hard until it became second nature...by the time u saw their performance it was like natural breathing attention to detail
frank sinatra practiced his phrasing until it was almost flawless
