The guy/girl is saying to his/her love interest that (let's just say it's a guy talking to a girl...) he loves her so much, that if he were given her hand in marriage, it would make him miserable if she did not want to be married to him--he loves her so much that he only wants her to be happy, even if that means that he cannot be with her.

That's my take anyways...hope this helps :)

Sounds like somebbody is saying they are unhappy and wants out of the marriage because of the misery that it is causing.

Don't say YES to my marriage proposal unless you believe that being married to me will make you as happy as my being married to you will make me.
