No offense, but your roommate is an idiot. Cat food is still food, and dogs eat ALL food, regardless of whether it's cat food or dog food! I used to have a similar problem. We had two cats, one that was obese and the other that was skinny and had liver failure. The fat cat would chase my poor sick cat away from her food and eat both servings. What we did was take a large dog kennel and keep our skinny cat in there until she finished her food. It worked really well because the fat cat wouldn't chase her away, and she was locked next to her food so she was more tempted to eat it since she couldn't wander away. Unfortunately, I don't think your roommate will like this idea since it involves locking up the cat. Have you considered installing a cat flap that's too small for the dog to get through? Just put the cat's food in another room that can only be accessed by the cat flap, so the dog can't get in. Not sure if your dog is small enough to squeeze through, but worth a try. I think that the best solution is to put the food on the counter. How about putting a chair next to the counter so the cat doesn't have to jump as high? Maybe you could even build it a ramp or something, lol. Honestly your roommate just needs to grow up and accept that the cat NEEDS to be confined away from the dog while it eats. At age 17, the last thing this cat needs is to have its food stolen!

Our Yorkies eat nothing but Wellness brand. Very sensitive skin requires a more natural food for these dogs.
