Yes I have, with a knife. And the only reason I did was cause I didn't have a pencil sharpener (I was camping) and I really needed my pencil. I'd much rather do it with a pencil sharpener though. My dad always used knives for sharpening pencils, I think he was against pencil sharpeners for some reason. Perhaps he figured they weren't manly or something, lol.

yup. carpenters and drywallers use flat pencils made of slightly softer than normal wood, which they are constantly having to re-sharpen with an exacto-knife (a razor knife, somewhat like a box-cutter?), thus the flat shape, making it easier to sharpen with the exacto knife, as having a pencil sharpener on the job wouldnt be very practical. also, if you are using a regular pencil, say for homework or jotting down phone-call notes, the serated edges of a steak knife work well, as the teeth sortof encompass a hemisphere of the pencil at a time, making it alot easier.

Yes!! I have when I was bored in class, I would sharpen my pencil with the metal part of my binder. And my finger nails if they were long enough. Mostly with the metal part of my binder though.♥

Yep...in design school I used my razor blade. I'm also from the south and men sharpen them with their pocket knife because they ALWAYS have one.
