You have to understand that everyone does not share the same sense of humor. As wonderful as the internet is, it does not always afford us (unless you're on a web cam) the opportunity to look at the person you're communicating with. Some people need visual cues in order to determine whether or not a person is being serious or sarcastic. Please keep this in mind and do not get upset when someone takes something the wrong way. We're all different. Enjoy your day.
Peace,
Journey

No it's because it is written!
We rely on sound and or vision to judge people and according to my avatar your talking to a German Shepherd who has a daughter called Saffy! In other words no clues or very few!
How would you know if an answer of mine was serious?? Without knowing what the symbol I used meant or with none at all!
Sarcasm is usually a subtle thing and doesn't translate via the written word unless you know who has written it!

An inability to articulate yourself does not necessarily mean that people have read you wrongly. As for the Net not being real life. What else is it? Its a commucation tool for people all over the planet. So much so that they call it the worldwide web. Am I any less real because I am relatively anonymous to you?

I think some people are set up for it or use to it and some aren't. Stay happy joyous and free and have a ball. Your probably alot of fun to know. Maybe there should be classes offered on sarcasm ? That could be interesting.

I don't think the entire world is misreading you darling...I think that you aren't making yourself clear. In real life, your facial expression and demeanor would help to make the point that you are kidding, or being sarcastic. Its difficult to express that (even with a bunch of crappy symbols that are supposed to be a smiley face) online, so you have to work extra hard to make your intentions clear in what you say.

It's hard for people to interpret what others say over the Internet. You can't exactly note your tones and inflections in messages. There's always a communication barrier when it comes to interacting with different groups and cultures. Both parties may encode and decode the messages differently.

People take everything to seriously these days....people need to relax and loosen up. Most things are not life & death. I love Sarcastic humor, and so do my best friends, but most people do not understand our humor and think we're just rude, in reality, we're trying like heck to lighten things up !!

I don't know. I like to make sarcastic remarks, but I don't use the :/. If people are unable to read between the lines, that is their problem.
