My daughter did a lot of traveling as a teenager, and never had any problem renting hotel/motel rooms. She often used her grandmothers credit card, with the hotel manager talking with her grandmother to verify. Often motels wont take cash, esp from younger people. Having a parent or grandparent make reservations in advance for you might be a good idea as well, and put it on their credit card.

Things have changed greatly in the last couple of years. It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to rent a room in any state and some states requitre you to be 18. If the hotels are still accepting minors then they are not reputable establishments and you may want to think twice about staying there. You either need to wait until you're 18 or bring someone who is with you.

if you show them the money (cash) many places will take you. if you have to pay with a credit card and you have one, again, they will take you.
money talks.
