I am extremely busy and my house suffers from neglect. I try to get a reliable person with references to help cleaning my house - mainly dusting, mopping. No laundry, dishes or cooking. Just to keep house presentable.
Jeez- I can't believe that people want $ 20 to 25 an hour to dust a house. Cash money - That's a lot. I thought like $ 10 an hour for like let's say 10 hours a week would be reasonable. Am I outrageous cheap or housekeepers too expensive? You don't need a brain surgery degree to mop and dust a little. Just wondering. I guess I take some time to do it myself but I won't spend $ 20 an hour:)

I agree with you in theory, but in reality it works this way: There are a lot of bad housekeepers and not many good ones. The good ones can pretty much write their own ticket, because there is always someone who will pay them the 25 bucks. Think of it this way -- would you work for 15 when you can get 25?

If you want someone reliable, honest, hardworking, and experienced, you're going to end up paying. The good news is that a good cleaner can do a better job in 3 hours than a bad one can in five hours.
