This week Parliament has voted that the House of Lords becomes an elected Upper House. Tony Blair has also secretly disolved the Privy Council in its present form, which means that it is no longer independent. It's probably a punishment for rejecting some of Tony's cronies on the last honours submissions. More significantly the Privy Council serves the Queen and not the Government. Is he intending to make this country a republic, with himself as President of course?

It's nice to see Mojo back on track rooting for Anthony Bliar .Anyone who believes this government have ever done anything for tax efficiency should take a much needed holiday. Fly and help Brown's new airline taxes.
I think you mean as Head of State ,yes Tony has probably got that in his retirement plan.

Look, if you've got a political axe to grind, at least try to get your facts right.

Tony Blair has not secretly abolished the Privy Council. The Government has proposed that, as the civil service department which supports the Privy Council - the Privy Council Office - is too small to operate efficiently as a separate government department it should become part of the Cabinet Office.

In other words this is an efficiency measure to save Taxpayers money. The status of the Privy Council itself has not changed!

I think the UK will eventually become a republic. It would seem that there is a momentum in that direction. However, it will probably take many more years for it to be achieved.

Perhaps when the present queen dies there will be a groundswell to replace the monarchy with an elected head of state. I can't imagine that sensible people would want 'Prince' Charles as our head of state. He's far to lightweight!

It would seem Tony Blair declaring himself Queen would be both foolish and impossible

Graham Norton has asked for that honour.

Your question should have asked, should the house of lords be removed, for good?

Yes, as we dont have any clue as to who or what are making decisions for us. How do we know there not just a bunch of thieves junkies and kiddie fiddlers. Would you want any of the above making decisions for you?
