Because the media is still trying to desensitize society to the situation considering it is relatively new in exposure to this culture. Also religion has been a part of generations and society for centuries upon centuries and it plays a large part in not accepting gays. To desensitize a religion that goes that far back may take a while.

I'm not sure if its hate so much as fear and ignorance. Some people are afraid of anything different from what they have always considered to be "the Norm" and show that fear through name calling etc.

Because people like me don't hate gays its just that its a little gross - not saying that its bad to be gay- its just a litte gross because god made women and man not man and man or women and women at the start of life.... and its hard to force someone to get used to... so people give up and it becomes hate.
