It's explained in the movie. It is written outside of an Asian daycare as happyness. Will Smith's character comments on it.

It's meant to be that way. In the movie, there is a mural by the son's daycare, and in big letters is "Happyness," with the incorrect spelling. There is meaning behind the misspelling.

I answered your other question and I am now thinking by reading this question that I misunderstood your other question, and answered it like a babbling fool. Forgive me. And YES happiness is the correct spelling, and until now I never even noticed the the movie title was purposely misspelled.

It is supposed to be "Happiness" but in the movie its "happyness" because Will Smith's character is homeless and he's illiterate, meaning he cant read and write... so its kind of like a symbol of his illiteracy
