I think the best way to find out is to start out trying to earn money from it in your spare time. Try advertising and see what response you get. If you have talent and you market yourself correctly it should soon become something you can do full time.

There is a useful photography forum at BabyDev.com with a real experienced photographer as the moderator. Just ask in there how to go about it and you should receive a fast answer.

No there isnt. Everybody has a camera of some sort and i really cant see how anybody, apart from commercial photographers with an existing customer base, can actually make any money at it. The internet is full of millions and millions of images, all virtually worthless because everyone can do it. A plumber would not be able to charge 100 quid to change a tap washer if you had 50 plumbers living on your street! The whole business would be devalued. This is whats happened to photography. Nobody is prepared to pay you a load of money for an image of whitby harbour for example, if anybody can just go an take the same photo. I spent 3 years trying to build a photography business up, although only part time, but it just wasnt worth it in the end.

my friends husband makes money as a photographer. he started by entering his best photos in local photography contests and got his name out there. he won quite a few awards and so he was getting known around the town at least. now he does senior photos for the local high schools. he does both digital and film photos.

the first thing you need to do is ditch the digital and shoot on film. you can do some really wild things in a dark room.

and yes you can make very good money as a photogrpher.

I guess. Like anything, it depends on how good you are and your marketability.
