This woman I work with is a total pothead, and I know for a fact she starts smoking as soon as she gets in the car to go home, does it a few times every night, and sometimes on the way to work. Basically, she's almost always high. I'm not normally anal about what people do with their lives, but the main thing here is that I work in a preschool and she is responsible for caring for about ten 2 year olds all day, that's why this bothers me. I don't feel like it's fair that these parents are dropping their kids off at our center and putting them in the care of this girl and have no idea. Do I have a right to tell my boss? The people that work around this girl all know it also, but they're all good friends, so they don't say anything.

Absolutely dob them in! As a parent I would be appalled if you didn't, but I understand your apprehension. Take your boss aside (maybe go in to work a bit early one day) and voice your concerns, including your fears about a backlash from staff. Your boss should be professional enough to be discreet about any investigations. Alternatively, go to the police. I know it sounds drastic, but they can't reveal your identity unless you want to, and it removes any accusations from the workplace, therefore taking the spotlight off her colleagues as the ones who dobbed her in - it could have been anybody. Also, the police have the resources to properly investigate the situation, where your boss can't do much at all if this woman straight-out lies and denies everything. I'm sorry your in this position - good luck!

Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!

To do it and remain anonymous is the thing to do. Be careful.
Her using pot, on or off the job, could put the day care center's licence at risk.

I worked at a place where we occasionally got anonymous tips. they HAD to be checked out. If unfounded, no problem. but, what sometimes happens is, the person simply resigns for ""personal reasons.""

How is she at work? Is she good with the kids? As long as she's a good worker and doesn't do it at work, I'd just stay out of it. Besides, chances are that your boss already knows about it.
