The song appears to start with the guitar playing the chords C then Gmin 7. When Trey starts to solo over this same chord progression I can't understand what scale he's using. If he is switching between two scales or what I dont understand.

Here is the solo. As far as theory goes, I am unsure what scale he is in, but this is a pretty simple scale that repeats over and over. I hope I have transposed it well for Yahoo answers. (after i perviewed it, it cut it off half way, I did find it on another web site though, here:https://secure.gcwebdesign.net/strangedesign/chords/guitar/Phish/Lawn%20Boy/BathtubGin.html ). Here is the chord progression in which you solo over (solo: C7, Gm7, C7, Gm7, F, Eb, F, Eb etc....)

My Adivce is when you play this song, always make sure that Gm7 is very pronounced and the whole chord resonates, that's part of what I feel gives this song personality. After this "scheduled" solo, I always just go to town where ever I feel fits (depending on our bands mood). Remember, Trial and Error will get you far when in doubt!!!!

Sorry about the error, I did have it all. Go to the website, they have it all!!!
