My friend is starting to sell beats but does'nt want to spend money buying copyrights for his beats but he also doesnt want to get his work infringed and being resold. Oh yeah, hes selling the beats exclusively. Thanks

Copyrights are automatic once a work is in fixed form.

I am curious as to how your friend intends to PROVE that the beats used by others were in-fact stolen from him. If the infringing work is similar or even identical, that is NOT evidence of theft per se. A lot of musicians think alike when in a groove, so if they don't admit to theft, how will he prove they did not think of it on their own? Unlike patents, being "first" with a thought counts for nothing in copyrights.
