The 2 main ones are North Island and South Island. There's also Stewart Island, plus lots of smaller islands off different parts of the coast.

The two main ones are North Island separated from the South Island ( mainland ) by Cook Strait.
Further South, separated by Foveaux Strait is Stewart Island.
There are numerous other islands many controlled by DOC as nature reserves and basically are not accessibly as they have been rendered pest free to enable endangered species to breed safely
