After you turn in an application for work, be sure first of all that you left them the correct address or phone number to contact you. If you haven't heard anything in about a week, call them back and say, "My name is ______, I filled out an application for (position) on (date). I am calling to ask if any action has been taken on that position, has it been filled? If not, I am still very interested and would appreciate being contacted either way." Good luck!

By calling to check I think this shows interest and drive so sure go ahead and give the places a call. Just say I'm so and so and turned in an application for employment and just wanted to check and see if you have had time to review my application ? I've done this before and got some positive answers like oh yes, was meaning call and ask you to come in for an interview. You never know until you call and it really does show an interest in obtaining the job. Good luck.

How bad do you want the job?
YES! SHOW SOME INTEREST IN THE JOB!!
You should call them and say something like, you are just calling to follow up on an application you recently submitted AND you would like to know the next step in the hiring process. Also, let them know that you are still very interested in the position and would greatly appreciate the opportunity for an interview.

If you don't hear back in say 2 days, call them and ask for the manager and just say "I turned in an application a couple of days ago and I was wondering if you might have called me while I was out since we don't have an answering machine" -- or wait for them to call -- or, last, go put in another application if you don't hear back, wait about a week and put another one in - that will show you are eager to be hired.

Turn in the application to a specific person, not just anyone in the store, preferrably a manager. Ask them who they expect will call you and if you haven't heard from that person in 2 business days or so, call in and ask for that person in particular. When you call, just tell them that you wanted to be sure they had received your application and you would like to set up an interview at their convenience. It speaks well for you if you take the initiative to go after the job and it'll show that you're truly interested.

When turning in an application wait for them to call. However, jobs that require a resume to show interest you want to call after a week of submitting your resume.

it's ok to call. what i would do though is after 3 days take in a thank you card thanking them for letting you apply. do this every 3 days for 2 weeks it will keep your name in thier minds and let them know that you are really interested in the postion. then make sure if they hire you, you are thier to work and not just to get a paycheck.
